An Operating System is use to help program to run, an example of this is the Linux. Linux is made independently and is popular for its speed. Linus Torvalds is the developer if Linux, if it is asked why Linux instead of Linus as based in the name of the developer, it is because the ‘x’ signifies the suffix of the Unix. This Operating System is an open source. Linux is competing with Windows OS so it is an advantage for Linux that it is an Open Source unlike Windows that needs to have license that people needs to pay for them to have it. Because of this, there are almost 10 Million users of Linux. As said in the video, Apache is the killer of Linux because it is more reliable and flexible and it runs compatible in Linux than to Microsoft.
What is an Open Source? An Open Source is a way for people to collaborate. It is commonly called as free software. Free software based on its founder which is Richard Stallman refers to freedom to have a copyright. Richard Stallman mentioned the term Copyleft which means freedom of user to share it to others. Cygnus is the first business that supports free software. Christine Pierson is the one who had the idea of calling free software as an Open Source for better. And Netscape is the first large company to participate in Open Source. A software that is free to be downloaded does not mean it does not have any quality, it is free because the creator /developer of this want to share what they know and what they have to others and for user to contribute to develop such same software.
